Things to do in Melbourne CBD - Citadines Apart'hotel

Whether it be taking a tour, catching a movie or enjoying some art, you’re sure to find endless things to do in Melbourne’s CBD.

Tours

You see them every day. Interstate and international visitors lining up in the CBD to take off on one of Melbourne’s myriad tours. Where are they off to? It could be anywhere from a day trip to one of Victoria’s premier countryside attractions such as Phillip Island or the Dandenongs or a day in the snow. A two-hour river cruise or a morning factory outlet shopping trip. A boutique vineyard or a chocolate crawl. Or even a walking tour to discover Melbourne’s hidden secrets. Whatever the adventure, there are plenty of them to be had. At Citadines on Bourke Melbourne, all you have to do is decide which tour you’d like to take and we’ll take care of the rest.

Cinema

Melbourne is the home of Australia’s cinema culture, led by the world-renowned Melbourne Film Festival, which draws entries from directors worldwide. Fittingly, the range of cinema experiences fits the city’s reputation for fine film. As well as the major complexes featuring the best current releases, there’s a range of highly innovative screen venues including rooftop and moonlight cinemas playing the best independent shorts and features as well as small European-style venues with art house showings. Visit ACMI at Federation Square and experience Melbourne’s film culture to the fullest.

Art centres and galleries

Melbourne’s vibrant arts culture is on display everywhere you look. It’s not confined to galleries. Although there are plenty of those, from the 1968 Roy Grounds’ National Gallery of Victoria through to a vast range of large and small independent and commercial galleries. Stroll through Melbourne’s network of laneways and discover the work of ambient artists, out-there street art and cutting edge sculpture.

Sport

It’s no wonder Melbourne is regularly voted one of the sporting capitals of the world. From its sports-loving crowds who can’t get enough action, through to its renowned venues and sports museums, Melbourne has everything a sport-lover could want. The annual calendar commences (a few days early!) with the Boxing Day Test on the hallowed Melbourne Cricket Ground; and the action flows on through the Australian Open, F1 Grand Prix, the AFL season, and the Melbourne Cup at Flemington. Then there’s rugby, basketball, netball … not to mention football played with a round ball.

Parks and gardens

Thanks to a legacy of greatness bequeathed by Melbourne’s nineteenth century planners, the city’s legendary gardens continue to astonish and inspire visitors. In the CBD, visit the Treasury and Fitzroy Gardens, with seasonal displays in the Conservatory. Wander through the flower beds, waterways and arbors of the Royal Botanic Gardens, or enjoy a picnic on one of its sweeping lawns with amazing vistas of the city skyline. Or take a tour of Melbourne’s fountains, follies and nineteenth century grand sculptures. Best of all, they’re all free.

Get out of town

Melbourne is the jewel in Victoria’s crown. But the State offers a vast range of attractions outside the CBD so venture out and discover what's on offer. You could even take a regional break in one of Victoria’s favourite tourist spots such as the spa country centre of Daylesford, or somewhere a little more secluded.
